American Soldier slide show and captions

  1. A. This image is the most powerful on because it shows the bond that Ian and his brothers had. It shows how sad they were that Ian was leaving and how much they were going to miss him.

B. Set #1 At home in Denver - #1-#9
     Set #2 At Basic Training - #10 - #30
     Set #3 At In Iraq - #51 - #70
     Set #4 Back in Denver - #71 - 83
Set #2 was the most powerful because it showed how he came from being a kid to a soldier. It shows how hard he worked and also what he went through to finally become what he wanted to be.

C.  The photos work together to tell a story by chronologically showing what he went through during his experience. The photos show all of the peoples emotions and how Ian going to the army really effected everybody.

3.
A. Present Tense.
B. The captions let you know exactly what;s happening. They also give you dialogue so you know what was being said during the time the photo was taken. This helps really understand what you're looking at.

4.
A.
Image 1
Ian thinks about his decision to join the Army after having second thoughts the day before his graduation in his living room.

Image 2
Ian looks over his diploma to make sure he has everything he needs while departing from his graduation ceremony after graduating.

Image 5
Ian sits with his dad while waiting to leave to go to training in their living room hours before Ian leaves.

5. A. The videos enhance the photos by letting you know how it looked while the photo was going on but in real time.
B. Videos are better than photos in the way that you can see exactly what the people were doing at that point in time.
C. Photos are better than videos in the way that they capture just one particular moment and you get much better quality of the still point in time.

SimCam

  • F4 looks best at 1/125th of a second shutter speed. The background is not clear but you can still see the windows.
  • F5.6 looks best at 1/60th of a second. The background still isn't very clear but you are able to see the color of the walls and some of the background.
  • F8 looks best at 1/60th of a second. The background is somewhat clear because you can tell that it's a building behind them.
  • F11 looks best at 1/60th of a second. Background is clear to a point where its just a background while the couple is the main subject.
  • F16 looks best at 1/30th of a second. The background looks good at this aperture because you can mostly see it but the couple still sticks out.
  • F22 looks best at 1/15th of a second. The background is very visible at clear with this aperture, you can see exactly what's behind the people.
The people are getting more blurry as the shutter speed gets slower. To combat this you can match the ISO or aperture with the shutter speed. The slowest aperture speed the photographer can hand hold is 1/15th of a second.

ISO

ISO 200
ISO 3200

  1. You can take advantage of higher ISO during a sports game at night because the higher the ISO, the more sensitive it is toward lights.
  2. Using low ISO is best when you want to retain the best quality of a picture, when there's good lightning.
  3. ISO should be increased when there is not enough lightning to be able to quickly capture an image.

Shutter Speed

Slow Shutter Speed
Fast Shutter Speed

Towards the end when there is no sun and has gotten dark enough that you can't see from one end of the courtyard to the othera.) the dunking booth-1/1000b.) the food eating contest-1/500c.) the rock climbing wall-1/125d.) someone working at a booth-1/125e.) the DJ/MC working at the middle of the circle-1/125f.) the Diamonds performance-1/2000

Three mode: Auto, Shutter Priority, and Manual.
Auto mode automatically sets the shutter. Shutter Priority and Manual let you set the shutter manually but for Shutter Priority, the aperture is on auto mode.

Aperture

f/2.8
f/16
Our pupils can be closely related to aperture.
The smaller the aperture size, the higher the f-stop value.
The smaller the aperture gets, the more depth of field camera can capture
