Cover types

  1. Early magazine covers modeled books. They had only a title and publication data. There were also no descriptive words indicating what would be inside of the magazine. Early magazine covers also had a generic illustration that evoked the spirit of publication without showing anything about the magazines contents. Many early magazines had no cover and began an article on the first page.
  2. In a poster cover there are no cover lines, or themes, and he title does not cover up the image. They are also generally large in size and the art on the front are usually descriptive pictures. The pictures on the cover are usually framed separate from the rest of the cover such as the title and or cover lines.
  3. On the pictures married to type theme, the cover art and the title interact and have a relationship that is apparent on the cover. There is cover lines almost all around the subject in the art. There is a primary and secondary set of cover lines. Most of the cover lines contain the names of the contributors instead about the contents of the article.
  4. In the forest of words theme has a lot of vivid colorful cover lines. Cover lines can be sometimes bigger than the title itself. Cover lines also over power and flood almost the entire magazine cover. The images and the cover lines also overlap with the cover lines still dominating the cover.

Finalist
Sports Illustrated, Winter 2011: "Swimsuit 2011"
(Photograph by Bjorn Iooss)
Landing on the cover of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit edition makes supermodels into pop culture icons. Such was the case this year for Irina Shayk, a Russian beauty whose bronze skin and green eyes have made her a Swimsuit regular since 2007. Credit must also be given to photographer Bjorn Iooss, who snapped the cover photo with the first-ever Sports Illustrated shoot. Iooss' cover shot came one year after his father, Walter Jr., snapped his eleventh Swimsuit cover.

Magazine tips

  1. How is it going to look in your hands not on the computer.
  2. Does it pop among other magazines.
  3. Does it grab peoples attention on the magazine shelfs.
  4. If the cover pops from the background keep it.
  5. Experiment as much as possible to see what its capabilities are.

Choice Sheets

If I were to take a publication class next year I would take yearbook. I would take yearbook because I like taking pictures a lot more than I like writing. Also, because I like having a specific job to do and having to do it in a predetermined amount of time. I would like yearbook because I like taking pictures and having certain responsibilities but at the same time not having all the weight on my shoulders.

Welcome Back

I Liked this photo because it was a historic moment of 2012

I liked this photo because right when I saw it it blew my mind how he has a knife through his neck!

I liked this photo because I've never even heard of someones eye being stitched.

Chief Keef - Hate Bein' Sober
I chose this song because I listen to it all the time, it jams, and I never get tired of it! What attracted me to this song is the instrumental, the song  just basically goes hard. It's the best of 2012 because Chief Keef is slowly becoming a well known artist and I have yet to get tired of hearing this song.

Marvel The Avengers
I chose this movie because I loved seeing it and I thought it was a great movie. What attracted me to this movie was how it had all the characteristics of a great movie. It's the best movie of 2012 because it's a great movie for all ages and if you're looking for a funny/romantic/action-packed movie then this is a great choice.

Sandy Hook Shooting
I chose this news because everybody and their moms knows about this shooting. This attracted me because you can ask anyone about it and they can tell you about it. It;s the news of 2012 because it's the second worst school shooting ever and like I said everybody and their moms know about it.
